ALL ARE CALLED TO ACTIVISM

JUSTICE ADVOCACY

RSP is committed to advocating for racial justice. There is no lasting solidarity that transcends racial lines without the work of justice that restores. We do not claim to try and reinvent the wheel. RSP engages in the work of justice through strategic, intentional partnership with organizations that are doing the work effectively and who share the same values that we do. RSP’s advocacy takes various forms: funding, bringing awareness, or education.

WELLNESS

RSP is committed to wellness as a mode of activism. We are also committed to addressing the well-being of individuals and organizations who are impacted by a culture of persisting systemic racism (that would be all of us). We know that racism causes trauma on multiple levels (physical, psychological, economical, and communal). Oftentimes in the work of racial justice and racial solidarity people are triggered, re-traumatized, or burnt out. Attention to a person or group’s wellbeing while engaging in this work is wise for sustaining the energy for lasting presence and effectiveness. We address wellness through our workshops (helping people develop the skills to respond to trauma well), promoting disciplines like exercise, nutrition, prayer, and Sabbath (helping people nurture habits to be well), and sponsoring activities like 5k run/walks, (giving people the opportunities to live well).

EDUCATION

RSP is committed to being a resource to educate individuals and organizations (including churches) about the history, impact, legacy, and ethical response to racism. We believe that one reason why solidarity is difficult to achieve is because of ignorance about the very systemic issue (racism) that plagues our society. Our workshops will not just be about lectures and presentations but will also invite the hard conversations among attendees. This is not the cure-all to address racism, but for those who are willing to engage this is a necessary step towards the work of solidarity.

INTENTIONAL COMMUNITY BUILDING

RSP is committed to the end goal of building solidaric community. We believe that the work of justice is not complete without the reality of a new (or counter) community than the one negatively impacted by racism. As an organization we follow the lead of Martin Luther King, Jr. and his “beloved community” (kingdom) idea. The beloved community is the embodiment of solidarity, the result of collective wellness, and the fullness of the work of justice.
